My ggg grandmother, Elizabeth (Betsey)Chubbuck Darling, apparently came to Wisconsin before 1850 with some of her children. They had previously lived in PA and possibly NY. Her daughter, Lydia Darling, married Joseph Crites in Walworth County 19 Nov 1846, per their marriage certificate. The odd thing is that Betsey's husband, Otis Darling, was evidently left behind in NY when the family went to Wisconsin. He died in the "Poorhouse" in Owego, Tioga County, NY in April 1850 [1850 Mortality Index]. I get the feeling that the rest of the family had just given up on him as a lost cause and went on with their lives. [Alzheimers? Alcoholism?] Some of the sons had remained behind in northern PA just across the state line from Tioga County, but Lorenzo had gone on to Wisconsin, and Betsey and daughters Lydia and Melissa, at least, must have gone to join him. Any help in sorting all this out will be most welcome. I am particularly interested in learning the date and place of Betsey's death and where she is buried. Lorenzo, the son, and brother of my Lydia, was quite prominent in Outagamie County.
