Martha J. IRVING - Delavan 1888

Seeking information about Martha J. Freeman Irving, known to be living in Delavan, Walworth County,WI in 1888. She was the daughter of Noble Freeman ( b. ca. 1808 at Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, NY, d. at Beloit, KS 12 Mar 1888). Her four brothers, each resident in Beloit, KS in May, 1888, are Spencer J. Freeman, Loyal E. Freeman, Duane A. Freeman and Gilbert J. Freeman. Her mother’s name has vanished into history.

Martha J. Irving and her four brothers were probably all born at Mukwonago, Waukesha County, WI between 1850 and 1865 (census records place her father there in 1850, 1855 and 1860; the 1840 census shows him in Lockport, Niagara County, NY). Wisconsin Land Records show Noble Freeman purchased patent rights on 60 acres in Waukesha County on 1 January 1851. Martha also may well have had a cousin, Lucy Crocker, living in Waukesha County at the time, and an uncle, Rufus Freeman, possibly then in Dane County, WI.

Court papers filed on 21 May 1888 to settle the estate of Theodocia Freeman Shaw (d. 19 April 1886 at Madrid, St. Lawrence County, NY) list Martha and her brothers as “of full age” in 1888 and heirs of Noble Freeman, “necessary parties” to the estate settlement. Other identified kin include Munson Freeman, River Falls, WI, a brother of Theodocia and uncle of Martha J Irving and her brothers. Six other identified claimants are cousins of Martha J. Irving. These are Moses H. and Frank G. Eastman, Oakland, CA, Laura Abbott, North Springfield, MO, Charlotte Ayer, Omaha, NE, Ellen Schaft, NYC, NY and Edward Freeman, the petitioner, of Madrid, NY.

I will gratefully receive and appreciate any supplied information about this family. I have abundant information on the Freeman family and am willing to share this with interested parties.
