I wish it were my Louis--it would have been a fitting end, after hanging my great-grandmother, but mine was a Louis Hammond Smith; born May 14, 1868, died Oct 10, 1925, supposedly in Milwaukee, but buried in Clinton Cemetery.
Now, James Baker Smith, his dad, died in 1925, and was born in 1835 in New York. He is buried also in the Clinton Cemetery. James was married to Harriet Bowers till she died in 1888.
The youngest brother,Corwin Smith, was mayor of Waukesha, and supposedly of Clinton too,and actively suppressed other's testimony against Louis in the trial of 1916-1917. I find it completely possible, even likely, that he would actively erase evidence of Louis', and possibly his Dad, who I think wasn't especially well liked. There is never any mention of any of this in his campaign.
Thank you for trying. Anything else you can dig up wouldd be most helpful.
