My 6th gt-gdfather was Robert Long (b England or Ireland ca 1665; d Tipperary, Ireland, 1712), of Greystown, Killenaule, Tipperary. He was already residing at Greystown by the year 1697. I would dearly love to find out the names of his parents & grandparents, & also learn what part of England his family originally hailed from. Circa 1695, Robert married Mary Soame, daughter of Bartholomew Soame of London, & of Little Thurlow, Suffolk, England, by his wife, Susan Hutchinson. Robert & Mary Long had three known children: 1. Richard Long (d ca 1732), of Killough & Graffing, Clonmore, Tipperary, who died unmarried; 2. James Long (d 1758), of Tullagh, Ardfinnan, Tipperary, who married Ann Carleton (d 1759), & they had no issue; & 3. Edward Long (b Tipperary ca 1705; d 1773 in the City of Cork), of Lacken House near Ardfinnan, Tipp, & of Cahir Abbey, Tipp. Edward Long married his 2nd cousin, Elizabeth Mauzee (b ca 1710; d 1799 at Clonmel, Tipp), daughter of a Huguenot, Dr Lewis Mauzee (deceased by 1750), by his wife, Anne Hutchinson. Edward & Elizabeth Long had four known children: 1. Anna Maria Long who m. Rev Wm Ryan; 2. Jane Long who m. Robert Rogers; 3. Captain Robert Long (d ca 1798), of the East India Co, who apparently died without issue; & 4. Colonel Richard Hutchinson Long (1740-1814), of Longfield House, Ardmayle, Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland. Col Richard Long married in Dublin, March 8, 1790, Charity Moore (1760-1842), 5th daughter of Richard Moore of Barne, Clonmel, Tipp, by his wife, Henrietta Taylour, daughter of Sir Thomas Taylour, 2nd Baronet of Headfort, Kells, Meath, Ireland. Richard & Charity Long had six known children: 1. Harriet (1792-1889) who m. Capt James Denis OKelly, of the O'kellys of Screen; 2. Charity Maria (1796-1874), who m. Wm Pennefather; 3. Caroline Anna (1797-1875) who m. Samuel Phillips; 4. Louisa Salisbury (1800-92), who m. Samuel Cooper; 5. Richard Long II (ca1791-95--1860), of Longfield House, who married Ellen, maiden name probable Maher, & they had no issue; & 6., my gt-gt-gt-grandfather, Edward Thomas Long (1799-1875), of Ft Edward & Longfield, Cashel, Tipperary, & later of Ironton, Sauk Co, Wisconsin. Edward Thomas Long m. 1822, Mary Crozier Clarke (1804-53), 3rd daughter of Rev Marshal Clarke of Abbey, Tipperary, by his wife, Eliza Hare, daughter of the Venerable Patrick Hare [formerly O'Hehir], Vicar-General of Cashel, & grandson of Turloch O'Hehir, a chief of a sept of the O'Brien Clan. Edward & Mary Long had 13 children, most of whom immigrated to the United states ca 1849-54, & settled in Sauk & Richland Counties, Wisconsin. Descendants of Richard & Charity Long now number more than 2,500 people. If anyone out there can let us know the names of the parents & grandparents of Robert Long (b ca 1665), you would make a lot of people happy. Cheers! Count Caragata. Email; countcaragata@yahoo.com
