Daniel HART was born in 1824 Caledonia County, VT. Birth year and birth place for Daniel Hart were obtained from the IL Civil War muster roll and his military and pension files. Daniel Hart married 4 Jun 1857 in Mt. Pleasant, Racine Co., WI to Ellen Jane Sullivan (1840-1871). He was the father of Mary Hart (1858-ca 1925); and John Henry Hart (1860-1911). Daniel Hart served during the Civil War in the 129th IL Infantry, Company F. He was captured in Georgia and held as a prisoner of war. He died of camp fever on 10 Mar 1865 in the U. S. General Hospital in Wilmington, New Hanover Co., NC.

When Daniel died as a soldier in the Civil War, Ellen applied for pension and listed her residence as Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI. Between 2 Jan 1866 (application for pension) and 9 Oct 1866 application for increase of pension, Ellen moved with her children to Dawson, Sangamon County, IL. She was joined in Sangamon County, IL by Henry Hart, of Caledonia County, VT, who signed as a witness on her application for increase of pension. (Henry Hart is believed to be a brother or cousin to Daniel Hart.) The widow, Ellen Jane Sullivan Hart, was married 4 Jul 1868 in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL to Henry Hart (1831-1881). They were the parents of at least one daughter named Beauty. Ellen died 27 September 1871 and is buried in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Sangamon County, IL.
