The surname of Tift seemed to be misspellled frequently on census and records. Not related to the family at all, but William didn't appear on the 1860 census in Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.after the marriage as Harriet was living alone with her son, Stephen. There is a James Tifft from Vermont living in Jefferson County with his wife Elisa in 1860, possible relative. I feel a marriage record for William Tifft dated 19 Nov 1857 should be in Jefferson County and may give you more information for them. She is living with Henry Marburger in Sheldon, Monroe County, WI by 1870 with 7 children. Mary Harriet Dezotell Tift Marburger (1 May 1835 NY - 18 Jan 1913) may be the mother of George Franklin and her parents were both born in Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Pascal and Mary Elizabeth Cook Dezotell and is buried in the Wanderers Rest Cemetery in Norwalk, Monroe County, Wisconsin and her father is buried there also. Her 2nd husband was Henry Marburger.
It also appears that George was first married to Ida M. Harp 12 Apr 1886 in Monroe County. The site Find a Grave would be helpful to you and Monroe County Local History and Museum also.
