Fallen Civil War Soldier

Hello from MN:
I am searching my husband's ancestry. He and his family were living in Springfield Twp, Winnishiek Cty, Decorah Iowa.
I have found that his paternal Great Grandfather, Iver Johannesen served in the Fifteenth Wisconsin Co.K. He enlisted for three years in January of 1862.He was 43 years old at the time. He mustered in at Madison WI with the Fifteenth Regiment on February 11, 1862. He was discharged with disability due to illness at Nashville TN on December 24, 1862. According to NARA he died in St. Louis MO in
December of 1863. His widow Gubjor filed for benefits in 1889. The only other info we have received from NARA is the filing for widows pension by his wife Gubjor in 1889. NARA does not give us a burial place. My questions:
1. Is there a place in Missouri that would have buried a Union Soldier?
Also his home county does not have him buried there.
2. Any ideas as to how I can find out where his body lies?
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Carol in MN
