Ideas of where an unwed mother go to have a child in1899

I am researching the birth of my father-in-law's father. We know the mother was not married at the time of the child's birth, but I am having trouble finding any information about the birth. Where, in 1899, would a woman go to have a child or were the births mostly at home and not recorded?
