Kenosha Migration Patterns, 1840s

I'm following a couple families that look like they ended up in Kenosha around 1848. Does anyone have any material that discusses established migration patterns into Kenosha around this time? The families are all Irish. Did someone bring in families directly from Ireland? If not, would they most likey have come through Canada first?

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks
