Vickey, I do have other info including a letter written by Dan to his brother-in-law my great grandfather See below. Dan and Zillah had three children, Ella (whose beleived to have married a Johnson and had two children Roscoe and Minnie) and two sons Fred and Frank and I have a little info on them, including contact with Fred's son. The info below comes from the Trefethen and Fifield sites. and I'm sure I have some more. Know I have one other letter, which is from Zillah and mentions the boys as working for the railroad and Ella's child being sick

Daniel Carter Fifield b. circa 1827 in Dexter, Penobscot, Maine (MEVR: Only birthplace is given, no date or other information.); m. Zillah Anna Trefethen 30 Dec 1847 in Bangor, Penobscot, Maine (Ibid., Maine State Archives - Penobscot County marriages, Volume 2 page 69. Married by Rev. W. S. Cilley.); d. after 1896.

Letter written to brother-in-law Abraham Trefethen in Exeter, Maine:

Dear Bro, Zillah has written to several of your family and not much to you so I will write a few lines hoping it will find you all right after raising such a large family which it shows you must have a big bunch of amitiveness. While it has been a long time since we met Its a wonder I am alive to write this after standing the hard knocks i have had since I came west. And I am getting worst now. The panic the past four years as about used us up. Our losses are thousands of dollars, I still have a thousand acres of land but expect to lose that before we get settled up. We still have 3 mining favties in our family that we will no doubt hold it makes me think of my boyhood days when trouble didn't come. We still own a house here a very good one 9 room. We are doing nothing this winter Have 4 horses and 2 are working in the woods. We have 2 cows both give milk and can eat all we like, with plenty butter. This reminds me of my childhood days when milk was all the go I used to skim mamas milk just to hear her blow it dont seem possible you have children married. Tell John he ows me letters and I would be pleased to hear from him and Lizzie, How glad I should be to make you all a visit I have expected to see you this coming summer but misfortunes will prevent. Frank and I farmed it some raised plenty potatoes and garden stuff Killed 3 hogs we also have deer meat. We have plenty to eat. Keep lot of hens, one Dog, one Cat Zillahs Pet. So I am out. Tell Cynthia to write us, and be more sociable. I always answer letters. Hoping to meet you all again I will close. Danl on 22 Feb 1897 in Gile, Wisc (letter in my posession, Norma Trefethen Karram)
