I do not have any Basts' in my lines but Anna Maria (Zabel) Bast was the founder of the East Clarno Zion Church. Not sure when the Basts' settled in Clarno township but it would appear to have been sometime in the 1850's hosting in her home until the church whis is still active was built in 1875. An excerpt from history of the church written in 1925 follows: "Hereupon the door of the pioneer log home William and Anna Maria Bast was opened and always kept open to the Evangelical preachers for religious services; and the hospitality of this home to the preachers is still remembered by some of them. The very first on the Monroe Mission to unite with the church was Mother Bast, followed by her brother William Zabel and wife, and by the families of John and Michael Matzke, and the Gutzmer family, which many years ago moved to Kansas. All these joined in the fall and early winter of 1858. In the spring of 1859 Father Bast and three children, Fred Bast, Ernestine, later Mrs. Karl Schroeder, and Sophia, later Mrs. H. L. Gloege, joined the others. Thus, the Bast home became the nucleus of Evangelical efforts, and the work was strongly influenced by these otherwise quiet, unassuming people." I do have photocopies of the church records for 40 years or so from Dölitz from about 1825 on. They do not appear to allow attachments on this board but I do have photos of the Bast headstone from the cemetery. I will try to email you directly with the photos attached.
