Bear with me . . . . I'm looking for information on my great-grandfather JAMES MARTIN O'ROURKE. I have the following information (given to me by a cousin) . . . . There is an EDWARD RICHARD KELLEY (or Kelly?) listed on the 1880 Census for Washington, GREEN COUNTY, Wisconsin. Edward Richard Kelly was listed as a farmer, age 41, birthplace Ireland. His wife Margaret (we believe maiden name CORKERY) was listed as "keeping house", age 41, birthplace Ireland. The KELLY children were listed as Margaret (14), Edward (11), Katherine (9), and John (5) all born in Wisconsin. Also listed were 3 O'ROURKE nephews: Lawrence O'Rourke (13), William O'Rourke (10), and JAMES MARTIN O'ROURKE (8), all born in Wisconsin; and their parents were listed as born in Ireland, but no names were given.
I believe that James Martin O'Rourke is my great-grandfather. I was told the O'Rourke boys were "orphaned" and lived with "an uncle." We've determined that since Margaret Kelly's maiden name was "Corkery" -- that it may have been Edward Richard Kelly's sister that was married to an O'Rourke -OR- it could have been MARGARET's SISTER MARY O'ROURKE married to a DANIEL CHARLES O'ROURKE.
(I saw an old post on another board suggesting this, but my e-mails to the authors keep bouncing back.) We've tried everything, and can find no Wisconsin birth record for my great-grandfather James. (Death certificate says parents unknown.) We're trying to find out who his parents were, when/where they died -- anything!!
A person named Ron O'Rourke posted in 1999 looking for information on Daniel Charles O'Rourke, born about 1810-1815 Bruff, CO. Limerick, Ireland, emigrated to the US 1845, married Mary Corkery @1859, died 1876 WI. If it was Margaret's sister married to an O'Rourke, this DANIEL could possibly have been the father of Lawrence, William and James.
