Hi Mark,

I know that Jesse Shaw and Mary Harris were married in Franklin County, Indiana and lived in Indiana until about 1855 when they moved to Wisconsin. Jesse Shaw homesteaded land and took possession of 40 acres in Haney County in 1858.

According to the 1850 census in Hancock County, Indiana, Jesse and Mary had several children, Charlotte, Benjamin, John R (born in 1840 or 41), Mahala, Ruth and Pahiby (probably actually Hulda). They moved to Indiana and then my grandfather, Jesse Jr. was born in Crawford county in 1855.

I have been able to track none of the family except Jesse and Huldah who moved to Washington Territory with their mother in 1878 after Jesse Sr. had passed away in 1862. I know that Mary's obituary in 1894 indicated that she still had one other living child "east of the mountains" but did not identify who it was or where.

Larry
