William ROBERTSON or ROBINSON and Mary J FLEMING of Canada and Chippewa Co
(I also posted a version of this message to the following boards: Canada; Wisconsin; Fleming; and Robertson.)
I am looking for the parents of either or both of the following people, both born in Canada. I know that they married about 1876. They immigrated - apparently as a married couple - to Wisconsin in 1885, so I am assuming that they married somewhere in Canada. I do not know if they ever became US citizens.
Here is what I know:
Mary Jane FLEMING, b 18 May 1860 in Canada; d 11 Nov 1917 in Chippewa Co, WI; bur in Edson Union Cemetery, Boyd, Chippewa Co, WI. Mary and her parents were born in "English Canada," according to both the 1900 and 1910 censuses. In 1910, she indicates that her parents were *Irish* Canadians.
She married abt 1876 in Canada to
William ROBERTSON, b 22 Aug 1854 in Canada; d 24 May 1925 in Chippewa Co, WI; bur in Edson Union Cemetery, Boyd, Chippewa Co, WI. William was born in Canada, but both of his parents were born in *Scotland* (this according to census entries).
The couple is also found under the surname ROBINSON in Wisconsin census records, but family records are *usually* found as ROBERTSON.
Children of Mary Jane (FLEMING)and William ROBERTSON (?or ROBINSON):
Sarah ROBERTSON (Sara ?E. ROBERTSON) 1879 in Canada -1901 in WI; m LOISELLE, bur in Edson Union Cem
Anna Maude "Annie"ROBERTSON 1881 in Canada-1924 in WI m LOISELLE; bur in Holcombe
Mable ROBERTSON b Nov 1887, WI
Alice ROBERTSON b Feb 1890, WI
Charles ROBERTSON b Sep 1892, WI
Howard ROBERTSON b Jan 1895, Boyd, Chippewa Co, WI
(The couple also had one other UNK child)
Our family members descend from English speaking FLEMING and ROBERTSON families of Canada (via their daughter Annie). If you have any information on Mary Jane FLEMING or her husband William ROBERTSON/ROBINSON when they lived in Canada, or if you can point me to marriage records AND/OR birth families, I would *really* appreciate it. We have hit a brick wall.
I would love to share information with other descendants. We'd love to track this couple back over time, but we need to get them back over the Canadian border first!
Again, thanks so much for any help or leads you can give us.
