NEW HOLSTEIN: Nicholas Boie and Cecilia Tonner
Nicholas Boie and Cecilia Tonner Boie were born in Kiel, in Holstein, Germany, he on July 21, 1821, and she on December 2, 1830.They married in 1850 and soon left for America where they were among the early settlers of New Holstein, Wisconsin.
The Declaration of Intent document for Nicholas Boie shows that they arrived in New York in July of 1854. With them was their oldest child, a daughter Elise. They settled on land just south of the village of New Holstein and carved a farm out of the dense woodland, according to family stories.
Also arriving from Holstein, Germany, was Heinrich or Henry Boie, brother to Nicholas. He and his family lived in New Holstein, Calumet County, and in Schleswig Township, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
The family name was sometimes recorded as Boje. Nic's given name was at times spelled Nicolaus.
Nicholas and Cecilia had four sons and six daughters who lived to adulthood. They were Elise, Henry, John, Mathilde or Tillie, William, Charles, Anna or Hanah, Cecilia, Lina and Wilhelmina or Minnie. I have gathered the basic details of their lives and would be happy to share the information.
Nic’s 1909 obituary is online here:
