My great grandparents: Anna Johanna Carlsdotter and Carl Johan Svensson
Anna Johanna Carlsdotter Birth 06 Mar 1857 Värö, Halland, Sweden to Carl Johan Carlsson (1828-1884) and Britta Lena Andersdotter (1829- ) Marriage 28 Dec 1877 Värö, Halland, Sweden to Spouse, Carl Johan Svensson Birth 21 May 1855 Värö, Halland, Sweden to Sven Jönsson (1804-1875) and Johanna Nilsdotter (1812-1868)
Two Known Children born in Sweden:
F Augusta Josefina Carlsdotter Birth 20 Feb 1878 Värö, Halland, Sweden.
M Johan Emil Carlsson Birth 29 Dec 1879 Värö, Halland, Sweden. (My grandfather – surname given as Swanson in this country)
They immigrated 17 Sep 1880.
Possible Child: Ella
On 7-2-1885 there was an Ella Swanson born in Ludington, MI to Charles and Anne Swanson. There is also an Ella Swanson who died 10-10-1887 at age 3 in Ludington. She is also buried in the Potters Field at Lakeview cemetery.
Known Child: Anna
From 1900 Census records:
Swanson, Anna niece of Anton Osen and Christina (Carlsdotter) Osen Jan 1890 10 MI Swed Swed
Carlson, Bertha Feb 1829 71 m 46 9 4 Swed-Swed–Swed Mother-in-law (I believe Bertha was the American name for Britta Lena
The Anna Swanson above is the daughter of Carl Johan Swanson and Anna Johanna Carlsdotter. Anna Johanna was dead in Feb 1890 probably due to birth complications with Anna. Anna was raised by 'relatives'. It appears to be her mothers sister, Christina that raised her.
Does anyone know of other children of my great grandparents. My father believes that his father had other sisters. Did Augusta Josefina Carlsdotter come to this country also? Does anyone know of Anna Johanna Carlsdotter family? Many of the Carlsson/dotter of Värö, Halland, Sweden immigrated to this country.
My great grandfather Carl Johan Svensson was known, at times, as Charles G. Swanson in this country. He remarried: Charles G Swanson, 42 (second marriage) to Anna P Berndtson, 28 (first marriage) married 1-24-1898 in Manistee, Michigan
Parents - Charles - Swan Swanson and Anna Nelson (apparently Americanized)
Anna - listed as unknown for marriage record but shows Bernard and Anna Benson as parents on death record. She died from TB on 12 Oct 1906 in Wausau though her home was Ashland, WI.
One document shows an Alek Swanson listed as a step-brother to two Swanson male children of this second marriage.
My father said that Alek was a cook on the ships of the great lakes and would invite his brothers, Ernest and Raymond, for meals on the ship when it would be in harbor in Ashland.
Does anyone know of Alek or other possible children of this second marriage?
Donald E. Swanson
