I'm looking for any/all information on an Erick Nelson/Kari Johannesdatter (they later take the name Steie). They left Norway 7 April 1856 bound for the US. I don't know where they entered the US, but know from family history that they spent some time in Ashland, WI. I am looking for when, where. I know that they had left WI by 1865 (census finds them in MN). The nine years are unaccounted for. They left Norway with two sons (Neils b.16 May 1853 and Jens b. 26 Sept 1854). In 1856 there is only one son that now has the name of Carl/Charles--same birthdate. There is no Neils. I am trying to fill in the blanks: What happened to the other son? Why did they change the boy's name? Are there any records of this family in Ashland, WI? Thanks for any and all help that you can give. Luella
