I'm afraid I can't be of much help with your particula search. I went to the Town of Qunicy in Adams County, WI, in April 2001 looking for material on my great-great-grandfather, Alonzo W. Colburn, and his wife, Polly Pirena Parker Colburn (on the gravestone it is Mary P. Colburn, but the dates of birth and death check out). I did find their graves in the Quincy cemetery, but not much else because of a time crunch.
Here are some names and addresses that may help you in your search:
Jodi M. Helgeson, Adams County Register of Deeds, 402 Main St., PO Box 219, Friendship, WI 53934, phone 608-339-4296, and Julie Goodhue, who works in the office and was very helpful.
Wanda Abfall, Town Clerk, Town of Quincy, Adams County, WI, sorry no ZIP, phone 608- 339-7230. You could probably send a letter to Friendship and it would get to her. She was very helpful and has a register of all the graves in the Quincy cemetery.
The Quincy Town Hall is on the corner of County Hiway Z and Edgewood Ave, about 6 miles south and 6 miles west of Adams-Friendship, WI, and the Cemetery is about a mile west of the hall, almost on the edge of Castle Rock Lake.
You might try checking with the Columbia County Register of Deeds in Portage, WI, for birth and death records. The people in Adams County often went south to Kilbourn, WI, (now Wisconsin Dells) for medical treatment, and any records from there would be in Portage, the county seat. Adams and Friendship are low on the scale of small towns, and Quincy never existed as anything more than a very small village.
I hope this helps.
