Whynot/Croft/Zwicker connection?

I am trying to shatter a huge brick wall--trying to find out about my Nova Scotian ancestors. My ggrandmother-Iona May Zwicker Ward was born in NS around 1880 near ?Bridgewater? Her mother-Victoria Croft, father John(?)Zwicker.Shehad a numer of siblings: Fred, Wesley, Ira, June Edith, Muriel, Birdie and the youngest one of my al-time favorite people, which I had the honor to meet and appreciate--Hilda Zwicker Ward Parker(lastly)of Berwick. Aunt Hilda told me that one of her grandparents was a Whynot. I don't know which side or whether or how it was spelled. I can't find anything on anybody of their family, her parents, grandparents... (I tried to look up info briefly this summer in Lunenburg--but my children got restless during or 1000+mile journey) She did tell me a vague story of a tragic winter's visit of her?grandparents?who attempted to cross an icy lake after visiting family and 1+ ended up drowning (early 1900's or late 1890's). Don't know whether they were Crofts, Zwickers or Whynotts. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
