Thanks for that confirmation. I also found the following people who look likely descendants. No doubt you will already have this information but I have detailled it in case some is new for you.
John Whitten b 8th Sept 1844 Michigan possibly died 17th March 1934 in Michigan
possible wife Frances P ? born 1851 New York and children Genevive or Geneva born 11th October 1869 Michigan married a Jason Hammond b 7th May 1862 and had a son Reed Stuart Hammond born 1897 Michigan. This family was at Lansing Ward 3, Ingham, Michigan in the 1900.10.20 census.
also a son John G Whitten born 1875 Michigan married Amelia S ? born 1878 California (parents from Germany) and had a son John S Whitten born 1905 in New Mexico Home in 1910 and 1920 Berkely, Alameda, California. John S Whitten married Pauline Talbot born 1905 and he and his wife were at Los Angeles in the 1930 census.
