For Willis Whittlesey, following up on my earlier message to you. Recently my husband and I were in the New Haven, CT Public Library where we found an 1840 City Director. I found an ad for Henry Whittlesey, selling crockery and china at 51 State St.

My family had always talked about the Whittlesey Crockery Store, but the store was actually named "The New York Crockery Store". The ad promotes "China, Glass and Earthen Ware of the Newest Patterns, Suitable for Young Housekeepers or Country Merchants."..."will be sold at the Lowest New York Prices."
