Hi carlus love.I'm sorry, I don't know your folks but, I can talk about the census.
In 1850, my gg-gmo was born in 1833 and black,
in 1870, she was born in 1836 and mulatto, and all household members (4)were also mulatto.
in 1880, she was born in 1838 and black again, along with all household members.
For whatever reasons, these facts were recorded. Now I know she is the same person in all three census because other household members are the same.
Sometimes you have to ignore for a while exact, expected ages, and sometimes skin hues.Back then, enumerators recorded sometimes what THEY thought was right. Lots of people couldn't read or spell their names so enumerators did it for them, as I found out within my family.Even first and middle names were reversed in succeeding years.
Anyway, I have been looking for my family members for approx. 20 some odd years and I manage to find one ever so often. It helped me a lot to read about each census year, and the questions that were asked for that year
Please don't be discouraged. You probably know it takes time (you might be more experienced searching than myself).
Good luck to you.
