I received your letter bearing the date 27th last night which gave us the good news that you are all well and have good cropds which we were glad to here Andrew has written several letters and has never received non yet he sent two by Captain Shelly one to Brother William and one Uncle gamaway and he wrote four or five before that as I am verry and feeble I cannot write anymore at this time all I desire is to keep my health but I assure you a soldier life is a hard life we have had all our coffee to buy for near two weeks and pay 20 cts a pound for it we have nothing but Crackers and meat and a little sugar ishued to us though we think we will fare better after a few days though we do not know we drink the Rio grande water which is perfectly muddy though it is said to be verry healthy I have no more to write at present give my respects to all my friends ans write as soon as you can direct your letter as you did before so no more remains your affectionate Brother until death Roswell G Whittenburg JL Whittenburg
