Hi again John,
I'm excited about this too! First, I'm trying to find Mitchell, IL on the map with no luck. What other town is near it?
I have been to the Richview Cemetery and photographed a lot of Whittenberg gravestones, but I don't remember seeing Elbert's. Is it the old looking one that looks like a vertical pillar and isn't easy to read. Yes, I think I would like to have a photo of his grave and the CW record as I belong to the Daughters of Union Veterans through my other g-g-grandfather Amos W. Downes and I would like to get another ancestor on record.
You say that you descend from George Washington Whittenberg; is he the one married to Maggie Stansell? I have pages from the Washington Country History that I obtained from the library. The library in Mt. Vernon(Jefferson Co.) has a lot of genealogy information, and I don't remember if I got this from there or at Nashville, IL(Washington Co.)
As I indicated, I have lots of family from Richview/Ashley: the Taylors, the Downes, the Whittenbergs, and the Kanes. I have a Tayor cousin living in Mt. Vernon and a Downes cousin in Woodlawn. It's great to have a Whittenberg cousin also.
Where do you weigh in on the Hoyle/Heyl controversy? Do we descend from Peiter Heyl(Hoyle)?
Please feel free to contact me directly through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
