I am researching my husband William McAllister's Whitted line. His paternal grandmother was Carrie G. Whitted born ca 1894, daughter of James M. Whitted born ca 1867, son of Brown Whitted born ca 1849. In the 1870 US Federal Census, Brown Whitted and his wife Mary were living in Pleasant Grove, Alamance, North Carolina. Brown Whitted and his wife Mary are listed as having two male children, James age 2, and his brother Anderson, age 1. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7163&iid=NCM593_1121-0271&fn=Brown&ln=Whitted&st=r&ssrc=&pid=19855207 My husband recalls that his grandmother Carrie may have been born in Lumberton, attended a Normal School, later taught school, married John McAllister, then migrated to New Jersey where she may have raised her family. My husband's father relocated to Boston, where he married Helen Hoard, from Newberry, S.C. Carrie G. Whitted was born in 1894 Lillian A. Whitted was born in 1892 Nellie G. Whitted was born in 1896 Clarance A. Whitted was born in 1898 Claud Whitted born in 1900 is listed on census as being born in N.S.? Ancestry transcriber identifies this as 'Nova Scotia' There is also listed a Laura Lewis (daughter) born in 1875? I'm not quite putting this one together. On the same census page, the listing above my Whitteds, I noted a Levi Whitted, Emily (wife), and four children. I am wondering if there is a direct connection to your Whitted families. I am new to genealogy, and am trying to re-establish possibly lost or broken family ties for my husband. If there is anyone who is familiar with this branch of the Whitted/Whitehead tree who can help me shed some light on this brick wall (Brown Whitted and his wife Mary) it will really be appreciated.
