I have no relationship with this family. I found the obituary in the Farmville (VA) Hearld, Wednesday, March 22, 2006, page 6A

Memorial Service held Sunday for Lucilla W. Whitted

March 21 – Lucilla White Whitted of Masonboro Sound Road, died on Thursday, March 16, 2006.03.23

       She was born on April 12, 1914 in Churchville, the daughter of the late Dr. William Chester White and Martha Finley White.
       
       She graduated from Mary Baldwin College and received her masters degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. She came to Wilmington as Director of Christian Education at the Church of the Covenant, now known as St. Andrews Convenant Presbyterian Church.

       While in Wilmington, North Carolina she met and married the late Dr. Joseph Willard Whitted. During his military service, they lived in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where she taught school. Later while in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she served as Director of Christian Education at University Presbyterian Church.

       Until their retirement to Masonboro Sound, they made their home in Hampden-Sydney where he taught. While there, she was active in church and community affairs, including serving as a ruling elder at College Church. After returning to Wilmington, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, also the Cape Fear Garden Club, and the Thursday Morning Music Club.

       She is survived by a son, Joseph W. Whitted Jr and his wife, Lynda McIver Whitted; a granddaughter, Anne Emerson Whitted; a sister, Elisabeth Willard and her husband, Emerson Willard; and a large extended family.

       A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 19 at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Dr. Ernest Trice Thompson III.

       Memorials may be made to the Global Missions Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Third Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 or the North Carolina Children’s Home Society, PO Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415.
