William Whitted Sr of Orange County, NC

Does anyone have an accurate date of birth for William? Various internet files show his children as born from abt 1740 through the 1760's. If this is correct then he was born about 1720.

Many people think that William Sr. and Thomas Whitted Esquire were brothers and sons of a Robert Whitehead. I have come to the conclusion that this is probably not true. Thomas was born about 1755 based on the birth dates of his children. The first in the late 1770's. If William was born in the 1720's then they were most likely cousins not brothers. William Whitted was a slave owner, Thomas was not until late in life when he obtained slaves through his marriage in 1813, to Sarah Kirk, widow of Lewis Kirk. All of Thomas Whitteds sons left North Carolina, Williams for the most part did not. I do believe that there is a family relationship due to the naming of children. Levi, Jehu, Robert and William were names used by both families.

Based on the way that people named their children I think that William Sr's father was William Whitehead and that his brother Robert was Thomas Whitted Esquire's father. I know from North Carolina records that a Robert Whitehead owned land in Orange County in the mid 1700's.

Now to find a family with sons named Robert and William born around 1700 or shortly before.
