I am also researching the whittaker line and find that the greatest concentration of Whittakers was in the Lanceshire or Derbyshire area of England. The name comes from the ancestral spelling of Wheatacre meaning field of wheat. Barons study of English surnames says that this is someone who was a farmer. My family crest has a saying on the bottom which says SPES ET FIDES which means Hope and Faith. I am researching a William Whittaker who I have been told came directly from Lanceshire but am also told that he came to Canada via the U.S.. There is no mention of him on any of the ships manifests that I have found, can you help with any info.
