Losing my mind!!
I have been going in circles for years on my Whitt line and am pulling my hair out still! Please help!!
I will do my best at explaining this...it has become quite messy.
My g-grandfather was Sidney Winfred Whitt. He was born in Surry Co., NC abt 1886 and died in Forsyth Co., NC in 1955.
I am trying to figure out who his parents are. Here is what I have so far.
1.)His death certificate has unknown for both parents.
2.)As he was born in 1886, have to wait until 1900 census to find him.I can only find him in Surry Co., NC, aged 14 enumerated with another family as a farm laborer.
3.)His funeral home card lists parents as unknown.
4.)He was married to Ida Frances Culler.
5.)According to the 1910 census, this was Ida's 2nd marriage and she brought a son, Charlie L., into the marriage.
6.)According to the 1900 census, Ida was married to Eugene Milton Whitt, with infant son, Charlie L.
7.)Pulled the marriage license for Eugene and Ida.Got Eugene and Ida's parents names. Eugene was the son of John Emmanuel Whitt and Matilda Whitaker.
Now...before you say A-HAAA! It gets better.
---- Working under the impression that Eugene died and Ida may have married a brother (Sidney)----
8.)No marriage license exists (that I have found) for Sidney and Ida.
9.)No WW I registration card exists for Sidney
10.)It looks as if Sidney didn't have a SS#
11.)Pulled funeral cards for John E. Whitt in Winston-Salem, NC. Lists family that came to funeral...including son...E.M. Whitt. So...Eugene's not dead after all..he moved to VA.
12.)Pulled obituaries for both John (d. 1929) and Matilda (d. 1910).Her obituary only numbers her children at 9 with one dead. His states the names of the children...same info as on the funeral home card.
So...now I am stumped...time to go to the cemetary, really starting to think that I have headed down the wrong path only to find that John E. and Matilda Whitt are buried not 30feet away from Sidney and Ida Whitt.Same cemetary (Woodland), same section, same row, 2 plots apart.
Now I come to you, fellow Whitt researchers....CAN ANYONE HELP ME??!?!!
I only have one new clue from all this digging. On the funeral home card for Sidney, it lists a mysterious sister (that apparently no one knows anything about). The writing is very hard to read but it appears to say Mrs. Lemley Dennis of Carthage, NC.
Any takers??
Adrian
