Robert,

First of all, I am not an avid family tree tracer or expert. After the death of my father last fall, I inhereted many pictures and notes passed down through my great grandparents and grandparents. I have pulled some materials out to hopefully confirm that we may share a common ancestor. My grandfather was John Peter Whitsell born to Peter and Christian Whitsell on July 5, 1852 in Bellvue Iowa. They moved to Elwood Iowa where on December 5, 1878 he married Jennie Maxwell. In 1902 they moved to Epworth Iowa. To this union were born eight children, two died in infancy. Christy ( Mrs. H.P. Hicks ), John (aka Jack), Foster, William, David, and Ruth. You are right in terms of Elwood. My notes indicate that in Elwood are buried Peter and Christian Whitsell, John and Jennie Whitsell, Ruth Whitsell, and 2 still born twins. In Maquoketa Iowa, Christy Whitsell is buried, Hampton Iowa Foster and his wife Fannie Whitsell are buried, Epworth William and his son Maynard are buried, John (Jack) went to Los Angeles and is buried there and my grandfather David is buried in Iowa City Iowa. I believe Jennie Maxwell to be my great grandmother on my fathers side. Hope this helps.
