She may have been the 4 year old Harriet Whitney, daughter of Horace & Catherine Whitney enumerated on the 1870 Census, Van Etten, Chemung Co., NY. This family was also enumerated in 1860 in the same location, father is listed as Horatio Whitney, a miller (Harriet's brother B.F. (probably Benjamin Franklin Whitney) was listed as a miller in 1870). Unmarried "Horratio Whitney", age 16, b. MA, was listed in Springfield, Bradford Co., PA in 1850, residing with the Newell family. There are other Whitneys residing nearby in 1850, including a 21 yo Luke Whitney who may be related.
