Well it seems my family is a whole lot bigger than I ever imagined!

I am Ronald C. Whitmer
son of Arthur C. Whitmer
son of Cecil P. Whitmer
son of Angus VanMeter Whitmer
son of Benjamin Franklin Whitmer Sr.
Son of David Whitmer
son of Francis Suffara Whitmer (in viewing this web it should more correctly be Franz Xavier Witmer)
Son of John Whitmer or is it (Johan Witmer)

I have enjoyed reading through the different posts and have found out more about my family history than I ever knew. Some have mentioned that the (mormon) Chuch of Jesus Christ... records are lacking or they are reluctant to give out info....As I was raised in the Church I would have to say this is true. I was never told of much of our history, it seems some from my direct line would like to have altered or changed it.. I can only say that when accessing the Mormon Chruch records make every attempt to verify the information yourself. The records are only as accurate as the information entered for them in the first place was.

I'm a Police Officer in San Bernardino, California. And have to look at it from that perspective. Good, bad, or indifferent it is our history and it seems some would like to ether change it or forget it. The truth is the truth, we have a rich history and it should be preserved in an accurate form.

Ok, now I'll get off my soap box!

Has anyone been able to make any further connection back from Francis and his father John from Switzerland... ?

According to the records I've been able to obtain. Francis(Franz) was born in St. Gallan in 1803. the same year St Gallan changed from French control over to Swiss control.. Again. It seems that Swizerland changed hands several times during the 1700's and into the early 1800's making it hard to trace back our linage from John Whitmer (Johan Witmer as some posts indicate) who is listed as being born in 1762 possibly is Switzerland. but I've been unable to comfirm this info or make any further conection back.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. feel free to email me privately, but please also post the connection on GenForum so others can make the same connections to our information.
