Carol,
What information do you have that would suggest that the Whitmers were antabaptist and Dunkards. I have not found any such link.
I would be very interested to learn of this if correct. Do you have any early information concirning the trip to America?
We were never able to make a connection to Switzerland. We have found that a grand daughter of John was a devout Catholic.
I am very interested in how you found Gallen Switzerland as being the place of origin in Switzerland. Where and how can I confirm this. Port of entry is unknown to us after much searching as is the date of arrival. Week information suggests there was a sister to Francis Suffare and Sellestine but we find no written documentation to this.Several oral history stories suggested different times and different reasons for going to America
We knew and talked a lot to a William Casper Whitmer who was old enough to know some of the sons of Francis Suffare. An elder DeLauder also gave us some information. Ernest Delaughter was his name and he was the owner of the farm next to the origional Whitmer farm in the Upper Cove in Mathias West Va.
I have pritty good records for the 4 generations after John. I can help you if I get an idea what it is you are searching for.
David Whitmer
