Whitman(TCW) born June 6, 1842, Butler County, Ohio.Living at St. Charles County, MO about 30 miles north of St. Louis, MO before the Civil War.Documents in his Application for Confederate Pension (Florida State Archives) state that he was living with his brother at the beginning of the Civil War and that his brother joined USA 33rd Missouri Infantry.Other sources state that he had a widowed mother;living with an aunt and a cousin when the war commenced.Jos. H. Alexander (JHA) of St. Charles, MO prepared two affadavits which stated that Thomas C. Whitman was living on a farm that was under his management.Jos. H. Alexander was the head cashier of the First National Bank of St. Charles, MO and was personally acquainted with Thomas C. Whitman for 10-12 years before 1866.JHA states that TCW's cousin joined the union forces and was killed on the Red River expedition of General Banks.TCW had many experiences in the Civil War which are documented and corroborated in his court martial records, application for a Presidential Pardon, and finally in his Application for a Confederate Veteran's Pension from the State of Florida.He was first married to Mollie Harris.She had a brother William M. Harris, CSA who was living in Mississippi about 1909.Mollie Harris had another relative Colonel Thomas H. Harris, USA who lived Shelbyville, Illinois.TCW secondly married Mary Elizabeth Gillett (30 May 1880, Brooksville, Hernando county, Fl),thirdly to Laura _____ (c. 1896), fourthly to Clara L. Price (25 Jan 1901, in Pike county, Mississippi).
He moved to Hernando county, Florida in 1874 which in 1887was divided into Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties.At various times he owned land in all three of these counties.He was known in Florida as Dr. Thomas C.
