George Samuel Whitman. Sheffield England. Killed in the Great War, 1917

I have been researching the names on a memorial in Sheffield Cathedral, England, which remembers the policemen and firemen who fell in the Great War 1914-18

The result of this research is on my website http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ in the 'Sheffield' section. There are details relating to George Samuel Whitman. Was he a policeman or a fireman. Born Sheffield 1892. I'd like to know details about his family and his career if possible.
Can anybody tell me more

Kind regards

Robert.
