Correction!! "His detachment was under command of Captain I.C. Wallace"...should read: "Captain J.C. Wallace".

Captain (James C.) Wallace was commander of Company I, 9th Regiment Missouri Infantry.

Exactly what Wallace was doing in command of the detachment to which teamster Private James Whitley was working at the time of surrender, I cannot say.
