I have Isabel Whitlaw, born 1792, child of James Whitlaw and Isabel Cockburn, as my great-great-great grandmother. The oral history in the family is that she was standing on the street watching a military parade when tall Richard Irvine marched by. They fell in love at first sight and he went back a month later to find her. They eloped to Gretna Green and settled in Glasgow. They are among the first settlers in Ontario, Canada.

Do you have anything on the parents, James Whitlaw and Isabel Cockburn? Will look in Ontario for other family members. Thanks,
