In Barbour's Vital Records for Voluntown, Windham County, Connecticut, available online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hubbard/voluntown/k.html, there was an Elizabeth Keigwin born August 19, 1746 to John and Deborah (Parke) Keigwin. This Elizabeth Keigwin married Bennett Potter, son of Abel and Martha (Pain/Payne) Potter, on February 24, 1764 and had children Elizabeth ("Betsy"), Susan and Bennett ("jr."). Bennett Potter ("sr") died January 1, 1777. The widow Elizabeth (Keigwin) Potter then married the widower Nicholas Whitford as his second wife. Her will refers to two of her Potter children.
The surname "Keigwin" might have come from Cornwall, England, as the LDS IGI has numerous individuals of that surname there.
I believe this Elizabeth Keigwin was the granddaughter of John and Hannah (Brown) Keigwin, who had several children between 1701 and 1721 in Stonington, New London County, Connecticut, some of whom migrated North to Voluntown.
Someone (not me) has abstracted Elizabeth's 1826 Last Will and Testament as follows:
Will of Elizabeth of Coventry dated 23 Apr 1826, proved 5 Jun 1826 mentions sons Bennett Potter and John Whitford. Daughters Elizabeth Arnold, Sally Greene and Olive Whitford. Granddaughter Cloe Elizabeth Potter. Ezekiel Whitford, eldest son of my late husband.

Nicholas Whitford was born January 6, 1745 in Rhode Island and married first Ruth Shippee. After Ruth's death, as a widower, Nicholas married the widow Elizabeth (Keigwin) Potter in about 1777. Nicholas died in 1817. Someone (not me) has abstracted Nicholas's Last Will as follows:
Nicholas' will calls him a yeoman, dated 19 Jun 1817 and proved 27 Mar 1819 mentions wife Elizabeth, sons Ezekiel, Nicholas and John. Daughters Eleanor Rice wife of Thomas, Hannah Blanchard wife of Hunamon, Mary Weaver, Ruth Harrington dec with children, Elizabeth, Sally Greene wife of Henry and Olive who is single. Source: RI Gen Register Vol 8 No 4.

Much of this comes from the excellent research of Craig Rice, who has posted much Whitford information on World Connect, at www.rootsweb.com.

If Elizabeth's Will is not the kind of "proof" you are looking for, and if you want a marriage license or other civil or church record of the marriage, good luck finding it.
