Carol, what I know about the volume(book?) that John Palmer (1785-1846) Architect?, wrote is that he may have studied a privately held manuscript concerning the Whitfields of Whitfield Hall, co. Northumberland, U.K.This manuscript, or maybe it was a detailed pedigree, may probably be three times the size of a modern day, standard sheet of paper.Evidently Mr. Palmer wrote his volume of work in 1836.I believe it must have about 255 pages.I don't know what is in the volume;however, the full title of the volume is:The descent of the family of Whitfield, of Whitfield Hall in Northumberland, from the Saxon earls of Mercia, and the Norman families of Meschines, D'strivers, Egaine, Baslie & Espee. My ancestors were the Whitfields who left Whitfield, co. Northumberland and were living at Alston Moor, co. Cumberland, where a Myles Whitfield, according to my distant cousin, John Brooks Threlfall, lived and married Maud.Alston Moor is about eight miles south of Whitfield.Myles's son, Robert Whitfield, moved south from Alston Moor to Wadhurst, co. Sussex, where he was an iron maker. His son, Robert Whitfield, Jr. built Rowfant, which is on the Internet.Robert Jr.'s grandson, Rev. Henry Whitfield traveled to America and founded Guilford, Connecticut. He went back to England and was buried at Winchester Cathedral.Rev. Henry Whitfield's daughter, Abigail Whitfield married Rev. James Fitch (this is my direct line).I don't find that I connect directly to any Whitfields from Canada, as my Whitfields were all from New England.Sorry;but, I appreciate the reply.
