variations to the surname of Whiteside
Just as a bit of general information: To those who have believed that by either adding a letter or omitting one to the surname of Whiteside is a clear indication of a separate family I can say now that you are in error. Recent results from the Whiteside yDNA project show clearly that the added S (Whitesides) and the omission of the E (Whitside) were simply old errors that grew into a needless separation of our family. Those of the surnames Whitesides and Whitside and who have submitted samples to the project are the very SAME family along with those who are Whiteside. They have the EXACT and same yDNA! Yet to be determined are the time frames when the surname spelling was changed and I personally believe that it happened at various times. I also believe that there is a very good chance that those who now believe they are Whitsett or Whitsetts will also find their true kinspeople and origins with those of Whiteside. Between illiteracy and being scattered as a family by fuedal powers from their ancestral home near Falkirk those of our clan have lost their roots. I will tell you that is changing and we once again will gather together and know our kin and the pride of Whiteside. Happy New Year Cousins !!
