Whitesell Family Genealogy Forum

Since posting this message originally in 2002, I have made contact and personally met Milton Whitesell of Missouri and Larry Whitesell of Indiana, both of whom responded to the original post. I also met Milton's brother, Milford, as well as Larry's brother, Jerry, and his mother Maxine. I have also made email contact with several other relatives. We all trace our ancestry to the Rockingham County, Virginia, family of Peter Whitesell. Milton is descended from Peter's son John J. Whitesell. The rest of us are descended from John's brother, Peter E. Whitesell. There were five other siblings, Mary Margaret, Eliza Ann, Samuel Henry and their half-sister, Susan. All the men were in the Confederate Army. John and Peter, Mary and Eliza Ann (we think), all went to Vigo County, Indiana, after the war, where numbers of the Whitesell and related families had earlier settled. Samuel Henry and Susan remained in Rockingham County. We have since made contact with descendants of Susan Whitesell (who married a Foley), but have not made contact yet with descendants of Mary Margaret, Samuel Henry or Eliza Ann. We believe the married name of Mary Margaret was Lee and that she was widowed and later married the widowed husband of her sister, Eliza Ann. Eliza Ann was married to David Ross, a minister, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayette Township, Vigo County, Indiana. She died about 1866. Mary Margaret might be buried in Stewart Lawn Cemetery in Vigo County, Indiana. Samuel Whitesell and his wife Elizabeth are buried in the Pleasant Grove EUB cemetery in Rockingham County, Virginia.
We would like to hear from their descendants to share family history information.
