I was reviewing messages on Genforum and found your earlier message and then checked my Rishworth Whiteley records again focusing this time on Pike End. Consequently I found an Eli Whiteley (1756-1841) married to a Betty Smith (1754-1852) and who was buried on Feb 5, 1852. My records also indicated that both she and her husband were buried at Stones Weslyan Chapel. Moreover Eli lived at Pike End and my notes indicate he conveyed Pike End to Trustees through his will.
This must be the same Elizabeth Whiteley referred to in the book by John Stott although all the dates do not match exactly. I missed it the first time because I had used Betty as her given name instead of Elizabeth.
My records indicate that Eli and Elizabeth had 15 children, three who died as infants. One son was named Eli. My records do not list the descendants of Eli, Jr. but perhaps this is your husband's line.
The source of my records is a treatise by J.Stephen Whiteley entitled, Ancestry of the Whiteleys of Pike End, Rishworth. Stephen is a direct descendant of Eli and Elizabeth.
