Swift Place and Stones, Soyland, Halifax
The Whiteley families of the Ryburn Valley, Soyland-Rishworth townships, were cotton manufactures and resided at Swift Place and Stones.
I once lived in Stones House, Soyland, which was the home of John Whiteley 1788-1858, younger son Benjamin. who left it to older brother Joseph c1820-1892, then to his son John William c1851-1936.
Stones Mills co, became bankrupt in 1903 and the residential side was sold in 1904.
The later families were members of Rishworth Baptist Chapel and are recorded there.
Stones House has just been resold - we left some 18 years ago - and I am working with the new owners to put together the history.
I would be pleased to hear from any of the Whiteley family historians.
