My wife's grandmother, Grace Pitts,
was raised by a Whitehurst family, most likely early 1890s-1900s in Norfolk, VA. Whitehurst was a lawyer/judge in Norfolk area.
Apparently he adopted my wife's grandmother. "Award" pins, one 1897 engraved as "G.C.W." another "G. C. Whitehurst."
Married Charles Dennis Pitts. In 1910 and 1920 census, Norfolk, Virginia.
I can find little or nothing about Whitehurst family that raised her grandmother, such as any other siblings? what Grace's biological father's name was? what the "C" stands for... maybe Cecilia?
