Yesterday I found a Frederick Whitehurst in the 1850 Census in Austin Co., Texas. He was E.D. with James Thompson 38, Doctor, KY; Jane Thompson 28, TX; James 6, TX; Sarah Whitehurst 4, TX; Frederick Whitehurst 34, N.C., Teamster; William Bird 20,TN Teamster. The census was taken Nov, 1850, p. 134.
Also, in the Stafford Point P. O., Ft. Bend County, Texas 1860 Census I found Fred Whitehurst, 42, N.C. living in a boarding house. This census was taken July 13, 1860 and is on p.369. Hope this information helps.
I am also researching the Whitehurst family. Mine is William Whitehurst, b. 1826 in Virginia moved to Burleson and Washington Counties in Texas. We have been told he ran away from the family home on the James River in Virginia. The story goes that he was a young boy when he ran away to Texas.
