The first Currituck Whitehurst was Gideon Whitehurst, shown in the 1755 list of taxables for Currituck County, NC -- which is just across the VA/NC line from Norfolk and Princess Ann Cos. In the early deedbooks are shown Gideon, and then John, Samuel, and Joshua. In 1779 Gideon, John, and Samuel are shown in the list of taxables. The particular Whitehurst I'm interested in is John, shown in the deedbook in 1789 as deceased, and the subject of land division. He left a widow, Rebeckah, and sons James and Samuel. He must have been dead for at least a year or two, because his widow was already shown as remarrying Josiah Nicholson, who was my original subject of interest. I'm interested in exchanging info with anyone working on these lines. Please e-mail me directly at JohnLaird9@aol.com as well as posting a response. Thanks.
