Hello,
The standardization of English surnames occurrs in the late Victorian era, that's the 1870's-1900's. Anyone with the surname Cox could end up Cocks, Cockes, Coxe, Cox, or a host of other interesting Variations. Some enterprising soul wrote Whitehurst as Whitass. One wonders if this was meant as a commentary?
Nancy Whitehurst Cox is the daughter of Simon and Argent Whitehurst and probably married a cousin of Argent's on the Cox line. This is very common. My GreatGrandmother married Whitehurst her mother was Whitehurst and her Great grandmother probably was as well.
At the moment its
WilliamRichard? Whitehurst
arrived Vir 1636
Married Ellen 7 children
Richard Son of William/Richard&Ellen
Married 1 Margaret Nichols
Married 2 Mary Batson
Children 6
Simon Whitehurst
Married Argent Cox
Children
Nancy Whitehurst
Married ? Cox
Children
Batson Whitehurst Cox
There are undoubtably several more generations involved to get to your Batson. However every generation of Whitehursts seem to name their children after themselves and their siblings, this is probably the correct lineage. Richard (Jr?)the son of William/Richard is the husband of Mary Batson and this is where the name first occurs in the family line. This is what I have currently but it is not as solid as I would Like,
Thanks,
