My g grandmother, Lettie Venie DAVIS, was born in 1893 in Augusta, Richmond County, GA. Her mother was Kathleen WHITEHEAD and her father was George DAVIS.
Lettie married Louie George ARRINGTON who was born in 1888 in Augusta, Richmond County, GA. His mother was Catherine WHITEHEAD and his father was Silas ARRINGTON.
The 1870 Census for Augusta, Richmond County, GA has this listing:
ARRINGTON, Silas, 27 years old, born in 1843, M, W, farm laborer
Sarah, 23 years old, born in 1847, F, W, keeping house
Lizzie, 3 years old, born in 1867, F, W
Sarah, 50 years old, born in 1820, F, W, no occupation
WHITEHEAD, Catherine, 20 years old, born in 1850, F, W, at home.
They are all listed in the same household. Now Sarah (born 1847) could have passed away leaving Silas to marry Catherine WHITEHEAD to raise his children. Which was quite common back then. The census was in 1870 and my
ggrandfather wasn't born until 1888.
I found it ironic that my ggrandparents' mothers' both had the surname WHITEHEAD and figured there had to be a connection and was hoping someone could help me find that connection.
Happy to share what information I have.
