Ron:Henry Saxon Whitfield was my great-grandfather. He dropped the "e" so people would pronounce it correctly! My grandfather, Walter Leon Whitfield married Katheryn Walker Yancy. My father married Frances Stith.(We found out after his death that he was a distant cousin of my mother through his mother, Katheryn.I married Rosina Russell and have four children, one of whom, James Mattox Whitfield
who teaches at Gardner-Webb College in N. C. has two sons, Douglas and Evan. According to SAR records, Capt George, who surrendered Ft. Charlotte to the American cause before the war actually began, was a nephew of Rev. George.I haven't been able to find which of the Rev.'s brothers was our George's father, but have traced back through Rev. George's ancestors. His father ran a pub, but the ancestors from there on back were ministers; the earliest about 1600 at St. Dunstans in Mayfield, England. (I've been there.)That Bible you mentioned is now owned by a Junious Cook in Alabama. He kindly sent my a photostat of the family records. If you'd like more dates, would be glad to dig them out.Jon A. Whitfield
