Hi Kevin,
I would also love to know the answer to this.I looked and looked for a William Whitfield or Whitefield who immigrated after 1751 and can not find him.I'm wondering if William was actually an immigrant or descended from one. Here is what my grandfather wrote about William's son, James Towler Whitefield:
James T. Whitfield descended from one of three brothers who came from England landed at Norfolk Va. moved to Edgecombe County, N.C. later to Orange County now (or near) Person County.Where my grandfather William Whitfield was born in 1798 died 1859, my father George Ira Preston Whitfield was born in Person County June, 11, 1846 died Nov. 23, 1912.I, Daniel Lee Whitfield was born in Person Co., July 27, 1895.
This was signed by my grandfather, Dan Whitfield, and dated Feb. 8, 1938.When I first read this, my thought was that he was referring to James' father, William, as the immigrant, but it does not say this specifically. As it reads, it could be further back.Do you have evidence that specifically says William (born 1751) is the immigrant? If you ever figure this out, please share. How does your George connect to William?
Hope Breeze
